Dramatis Personae

Michelle: Michelle is Eleanor's best friend.  She is, in Eleanor's words, "the most girly tomboy on the planet."  Growing up, Eleanor had a difficult time relating to girls, but no problem at all getting along with the boys.  Michelle is the first "girl" friend Eleanor has ever really had.

Speaking of the boys ...  Eleanor has been blessed to have met many wonderful men in her life, but these are her special companions.

Adam: Tall, dark and handsome, Adam is an enigma to most people, including himself.  A successful businessman, he's at the point in his life and career that he's looking for the right person.  Eleanor is his sounding board -- and the one who helps him pick up the pieces when necessary.

Alexander: Tall and blond, Alexander is a film buff and car enthusiast.  He has known Eleanor since high school, but their friendship reached new levels with some pretty raunchy phone calls while they were separated by two provinces while in college.  Eleanor is his go-to girl for movie nights, weddings, and, when the need arises, he's more than willing to tango.

Eddie: If an elf could be six feet tall, with an impish grin and twinkling eyes, it would be Eddie.  With deep dimples, curly dark hair and a chin that's always in some state of unshaven, Eddie is a terrible tease and has the ability to make Eleanor laugh in almost any situation.  Like Eleanor, Eddie is also pagan, and insists she needs to get "out of the incense and into the outdoors" once in a while.

Jake: Fifteen years Eleanor's senior, Jake is a pilot, flying cargo and other small jobs.  He and Eleanor met when her best friend Michelle went into early labour on the small coastal island where she has a B&B.  Although Jake lives in a different city, he usually calls Eleanor when he's in town, takes her to dinner, and has offered to father a baby for her any time she likes, (as long as she promises to name him Orville Wright Wrigley).

JD: Eleanor met JD when her computer at the store went on the fritz just in time for year-end.  The epitome of the strong, silent type, JD is usually up to something scientific in his basement.  Eleanor does her best to ensure that he sees the light of day once in a while -- although the dark isn't always so bad.

Mark: When they were children, Mark and Eleanor were best of friends, but with a two-year age difference, they drifted apart when Eleanor hit puberty and discovered "older" men.  Many years later, they bumped into each other again at Michelle's place and were both delighted and intrigued to reconnect.  Although they are still getting reacquainted, and Eleanor isn't quite sure how Mark will take to the adult version of his childhood pal, she is pleased to see he's grown up quite nicely.  (She's also wondering if he remembers the time he tied her to a tree ... and would he like to do it again?)

Rick: Eleanor met Rick online a few years ago, in a chat room for locals.  They have become friends via the computer, but have not yet met in person.  Eleanor loves Rick's intelligence, the fact that he quotes Shakespeare, the way he ferrets out the root of problems, and his vast knowledge of many subjects.  The fact that he's also a teacher and is helping to shape young minds (or corrupt them, as he laughs) is something Eleanor finds very hot.

Sebastian: A novelist, Sebastian met Eleanor at a local writers' group, where he offered honest, constructive criticism on her poetry and fiction.  They were initially drawn together by their mutual interest in wordcraft, but have become close friends, especially after Sebastian helped Eleanor extricate herself from a particularly nasty relationship.  He's the only one who really knows the extent of Eleanor's social life.

Turner: Always a firm believer in lifelong education, Eleanor takes courses at the university from time to time, just to stretch her brain.  Although one particular course made her brain nearly implode, it has introduced her to a particular professor.  Not only is Eleanor soaking in the knowledge as best she can, she is dealing with an irrepressible urge to teach Turner a thing or two herself.
